How to identify this generation
- An 8-iron with a black cavity insert carrying a Titleist script over 762, and a black DCI badge at the toe end of the lower cavity.
- The DCI name also appears on these Titleist irons; compare their markings before using this chart: DCI Oversize + Gold (1996–1998); DCI Oversize + Black (1996–2000); DCI 962 (1997–1999); DCI 962B (1997–2000); DCI 981, DCI 981SL (1998–2001); DCI 990 (1999–2000); DCI 990B (2000–2002); DCI 822OS (2001–2003); DCI 762B (2002–2003).
What to notice in the specifications
- Titleist’s table runs from the 1-iron (40 in, 17°) to a 50° W (11 clubs) with D2 swing weights and offsets from .180 in to .099 in.
- DCI 762B is a separate page with a 2-iron to PW set, stronger-lofted long irons (19° 2-iron) and smaller offsets.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
