How to identify this generation
- Check the T-MB marking and 716 hosel code, including the darker sole area shown in the archive photo.
What to notice in the specifications
- The 2-iron has a published 17° loft and 59° lie. Later 718 T-MB uses the shared 59.5° lie row.
- The 45° P to 50° W step is 5° in the chart. This does not predict the gap in your actual carry distances.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
