How to identify this generation

  • A satin-and-chrome hollow head with P·790 in black at the center of the upper back, a T logo low toward the toe and a small round screw at the top of the toe; there is no TUNGSTEN lettering.
  • The P-Series name also appears on these TaylorMade irons; compare their markings before using this chart: P750, P770, P790 (2017 archive edition); P760 (2018 archive edition); P7TW, P790, P790 Ti (2019 archive edition); P790 (2021 archive edition); P790 (2023 archive edition).

What to notice in the specifications

  • TaylorMade calls this set the 2025 P·790. Against the 2023 sheet the 4-, 8- and 9-irons, PW and AW are 1° stronger, the 5- and 7-irons 0.5° stronger and the 6-iron unchanged; the lies and men’s lengths are the same, and the page lists no 3-iron.
  • The page’s women’s graphite length row is 1 in shorter than the men’s row for every club. Men’s swing weights are D2 (steel) / D0 (graphite) from the 4- to 9-iron and D3 / D1 for the PW and AW.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
