How to identify this generation
- A chrome hollow head with a dark recessed window high on the toe, a black striped band across the upper back with P·790Ti beneath it toward the heel and a T logo low toward the toe.
- The P-Series name also appears on these TaylorMade irons; compare their markings before using this chart: P750, P770, P790 (2017 archive edition); P760 (2018 archive edition); P7TW, P790 (2019 archive edition); P790 (2021 archive edition); P790 (2023 archive edition).
What to notice in the specifications
- TaylorMade lists a 9-1-1 titanium body, a machined 6-4 titanium face and up to 119 g of tungsten; the chart is right-hand only and says left-hand clubs would follow in spring 2020.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
