How to identify this generation
- PING and EYE2 sit either side of a colour-code dot on the cavity badge, with KARSTEN PHOENIX AZ lettering along the lower cavity.
What to notice in the specifications
- PING’s Classics page dates the first EYE2 irons to September 1982 and the EYE2+ revision to April 1990. It notes dozens of minor and a few major revisions in between, so two Eye 2 sets can differ in details.
- This chart is PING’s table for EYE2 irons built before January 1998. PING publishes a second table for EYE2 irons built after January 1998 and for EYE2+, with stronger lofts: 3-iron 21°, 4-iron 24.5°, 5-iron 27.5°, 6-iron 31°, 7-iron 35°, 8-iron 39.5°, 9-iron 44°, PW 48.5°, SW 53° and LW 58°. The 1-iron, 2-iron, lie and length figures are the same in both tables.
- PING added the LW to the set in March 1986.
- The figures come from an Internet Archive capture of PING’s own US page dated 2003-10-12. The introduction year comes from that page; individual clubs may have been built later.
- Lie angles are PING’s standard specification for the black colour-code dot. PING fits lie angle with a colour-coded dot, so check the dot on a used PING iron against PING’s colour code chart before assuming these lies.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
