How to identify this generation

  • Adams’ set photo shows six chrome cavity irons with a dark blue a4 badge low in the cavity and two hybrids with a blue sole insert on blue graphite shafts.
  • The Idea Tech name also appears on these Adams irons; compare their markings before using this chart: Idea Tech a4OS (2008 US page).

What to notice in the specifications

  • Adams sells this set with hybrids in place of the long irons; the same table lists the 3 hybrid (19°, 59.25°, 40.5 in) and 4 hybrid (22°, 60°, 39.25 in) as loft, lie and length. Those hybrid rows are kept out of the chart.
  • Adams writes the name IDEA TECH a4 and lists Matrix Studio 84 graphite or True Temper Dynamic Gold SL steel for the irons, Mitsubishi Rayon JavlnFX for the hybrids and a Graphite Design YSQ-HL senior graphite option.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
