How to identify this generation

  • Adams’ set photo shows chrome irons with a black-and-gold a7 cavity badge, with two black-crowned hybrids on gold graphite shafts at the long end.
  • The Idea name also appears on these Adams irons; compare their markings before using this chart: Idea a3OS, Idea a3 (2008 US page); Idea CMB (2012 US page); Idea Super S (2013 US page).

What to notice in the specifications

  • Adams sells this set with hybrids in place of the long irons; the same table lists the 3 hybrid (19°, 59°, 40 in) and 4 hybrid (22°, 59.75°, 39.25 in) as loft, lie and length. Those hybrid rows are kept out of the chart.
  • The table calls the 5 a Mid-Iron (a hollow transition head) and lists the GW, SW and LW with 8°, 12° and 8° bounce.
  • The gallery image on the page is captioned Idea Pro Black in one alt text; the photo and the heading are the Idea a7 set.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
