How to identify this generation

  • Adams’ photo shows a single CMB iron from the back: a chrome cavity with IDEA across a raised bar, TUNGSTEN on the toe side, FORGED on the heel side and a small gold-and-black CMB badge low toward the toe.
  • The Idea name also appears on these Adams irons; compare their markings before using this chart: Idea a3OS, Idea a3 (2008 US page); Idea a7 (2011 US page); Idea Super S (2013 US page).

What to notice in the specifications

  • Adams marks the 3-iron with an asterisk and the footnote 3 Iron Custom Only; the set is right-hand only with KBS Tour C-Taper steel or Matrix Ozik Program 8.1 graphite.
  • Adams publishes the same lofts, lies and lengths for the Idea Pro a12 irons (4-iron to GW) and the Idea Pro Black CB1 irons (4-iron to PW), different heads; only the CMB lists a 3-iron.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
