How to identify this generation

  • Adams’ set photo shows six chrome cavity irons with a gold Pro Gold badge low in the cavity and two hybrids with gold crown badges on blue graphite shafts.
  • The Idea Pro name also appears on these Adams irons; compare their markings before using this chart: Idea Pro (2008 US page); Idea Pro Black, Idea Pro a12, Idea Pro Black CB1 (2011 US page).

What to notice in the specifications

  • Adams sells this set with hybrids in place of the long irons; the same table lists the 3 hybrid (20°, 59.5°, 40 in) and 4 hybrid (23°, 60.5°, 39 in) as loft, lie and length. Those hybrid rows are kept out of the chart.
  • Adams calls the set the Idea Pro Gold Forged Hybrid Irons and lists Rifle Project X steel for the irons and Mitsubishi Rayon JAVLN FX graphite for the hybrids.
  • Adams lists the 5-iron, 6-iron, 7-iron, 8-iron, 9-iron and PW as right-hand only; the other clubs are marked R and L.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
