How to identify this generation

  • Adams’ set photo shows eight black-finish muscle-back irons with a smooth back, a small badge low on the blade and the number on the hosel side.
  • The Idea Pro name also appears on these Adams irons; compare their markings before using this chart: Idea Pro, Idea Pro Gold (2008 US page); Idea Pro a12, Idea Pro Black CB1 (2011 US page).

What to notice in the specifications

  • Adams sells the set as 3-PW or 4-GW only, right-hand, on KBS Black Tour steel; the page calls them Idea Pro Black Muscle-Back Irons.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
