How to identify this generation

  • Adams’ a12 gallery photo shows two views of one iron, the narrow chrome sole from the side and the face with straight grooves, and no model marking is visible in either view; the record rests on the Idea Pro a12 page the photo was published on.
  • The Idea Pro name also appears on these Adams irons; compare their markings before using this chart: Idea Pro, Idea Pro Gold (2008 US page); Idea Pro Black, Idea Pro Black CB1 (2011 US page).

What to notice in the specifications

  • Adams lists the set as 4-GW, right-hand only, with KBS Tour steel or Mitsubishi JAVLN graphite.
  • Adams publishes the same lofts, lies and lengths from 4-iron to GW for the Idea CMB irons (2012) and from 4-iron to PW for the Idea Pro Black CB1 irons (51° GW), different heads.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
