How to identify this generation
- A 5-iron with a dark grey cavity insert, a Titleist script across it and 731PM lettering at the heel end of the cavity.
What to notice in the specifications
- Titleist’s table runs from the 2-iron to a 45° PW (9 clubs) with D2 swing weights, offsets from .220 in to .090 in and bounce from 1° to 8.5°.
- Lies run from 61° at the 2-iron to 64.5° at the 9-iron and PW, more upright than Titleist’s DCI and 681 tables of the same years.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
