How to identify this generation
- An 8-iron muscle back with a Titleist script over FORGED in the centre and 690MB stamped low near the toe.
- The 690 name also appears on these Titleist irons; compare their markings before using this chart: 690CB Forged (2002).
What to notice in the specifications
- Titleist’s 2002 listing runs from the 2-iron to a 48° PW with 58°–63° lies, 39.25–35.25 in lengths, D2 swing weights and bounce from 1.5° to 7°.
- Titleist’s separate 2005 page for Forged 690.MB (2003–2004 listing) prints the same lofts with 59°–64° lies and 39.5–35.75 in lengths; that page is the catalog’s Forged 690.MB (2005 page) record.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
