How to identify this generation

  • A 6-iron with a shallow cavity, a Titleist script over FORGED in the centre and 690CB stamped low near the toe.
  • The 690 name also appears on these Titleist irons; compare their markings before using this chart: 690MB Forged Muscle Back (2002).

What to notice in the specifications

  • Titleist’s 2002 listing runs from the 2-iron to a 51° W with 58°–63° lies, 39.25–35.25 in lengths, D2 swing weights and bounce from 1.5° to 8°.
  • Titleist’s separate 2005 page for Forged 690.CB (2003–2004 listing) prints a different table: 19° 2-iron to 48° PW, 59°–64° lies and 39.5–35.75 in lengths. That page is the catalog’s Forged 690.CB (2005 page) record.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
