How to identify this generation
- A forged muscle back with a shield crest in the upper back, a scooped recess toward the toe and FORGED stamped low near the hosel.
- The rac name also appears on these TaylorMade irons; compare their markings before using this chart: rac MB (2003 archive edition); rac Forged TP, rac OS, rac LT (2004 archive edition).
What to notice in the specifications
- A footnote on the sheet reads right-hand men’s only, and the same 38.75 in steel length is printed for the 2- and 3-iron.
- TaylorMade’s rac MB (2003) sheet lists the same lofts and lies from 2-iron to PW plus a 17° 1-iron; its lengths differ (2-iron: 39.25 in).
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
