How to identify this generation

  • An oversize chrome cavity with a red badge on the top rail, a row of dark round ports along the upper cavity and the rac logo with a red mark low in the middle.
  • The rac name also appears on these TaylorMade irons; compare their markings before using this chart: rac MB (2003 archive edition); rac Forged TP, rac LT (2004 archive edition); rac TP MB (2006 archive edition).

What to notice in the specifications

  • The 60° lob wedge is listed at a 65° lie, half a degree more upright than the sand wedge.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
