How to identify this generation
- A black cavity insert crossed by a silver chevron, with a red-and-black R9 badge on the chevron toward the heel.
- The R9 name also appears on these TaylorMade irons; compare their markings before using this chart: R9 TP (2009 archive edition); R9 TP B (2010 archive edition).
What to notice in the specifications
- The sheet describes a Velocity-Control Chamber and wrap-around face in the 3- to 6-irons.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
