How to identify this generation
- A cavity back with a black-and-gold r7 badge at the top of the cavity and a dark insert crossed by gold lines below it.
- The r7 name also appears on these TaylorMade irons; compare their markings before using this chart: r7 XD, r7 CGB MAX (2005 archive edition); r7, r7 Draw (2006 archive edition).
What to notice in the specifications
- Graphite shafts are listed as custom only; the stock build is True Temper Dynamic Gold steel.
- TaylorMade’s Tour Preferred (2008) sheet lists exactly the same lofts, lies and lengths for a different head.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
