How to identify this generation
- A dark insert with gold stripes like the r7, plus a round medallion on the heel side of the cavity below an r7 badge.
- The r7 name also appears on these TaylorMade irons; compare their markings before using this chart: r7 XD, r7 CGB MAX (2005 archive edition); r7 TP, r7 (2006 archive edition).
What to notice in the specifications
- TaylorMade’s r7 (2006) sheet lists different lofts at 3-iron (20°), PW (45°), AW (50°), SW (55°), LW (60°) and the same lies from 3-iron to LW.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
