Identifying the right model

  • A long, wide blade with HB SOFT 2 lettered on the sole and 8 at the heel end below the Cleveland roundel, MODEL 8 OPTIMIZED MILLING along the face edge and a centre-shafted hosel entering behind the face.

What to check before using the reference

  • 8C is the centre-shafted, face-balanced version of the Model 8 with a 3-line alignment and oversize grip; the 8S (slant neck) has its own record.
  • Cleveland’s footnote says no loft or lie adjustments are offered for the 8C and 11C, and that putter shafts 35 in and over include a 20 g counterbalance weight.
  • Cleveland also sells an HB SOFT 2 Black Model 8C (black finish) on its own page without a specification table.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
