Identifying the right model

  • Chrome sole with a large red-outlined V, STEEL lettering along the heel side, 15° on the crown edge and a 3 by the hosel, on a black shaft.

What to check before using the reference

  • The table lists six heads (T/S 13°, 3-wood 15°, 4-wood 16.5°, 5-wood 18°, 7-wood 21°, 9-wood 24°) with graphite and steel lengths half an inch apart, all at D2; only the 3-, 5- and 7-woods are marked left-handed.
  • TaylorMade describes a V-shaped sole that reduces turf resistance; the stock shafts are the M.A.S.² FW graphite (TS, S, R, M; 72–74 g) and Dynamic Gold Lite steel (X, S, R; 100–104 g) with a TaylorMade TNG grip. The V Steel appears only on the combined 2005 “Fairways” sheet in the archive.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
