Identifying the right model

  • Sole view with r5 XL lettering (XL in yellow) over TaylorMade script, a 460 cc N marking on the rear sole pad, a single red-dot port at the heel and a red shaft.

What to check before using the reference

  • TaylorMade’s sheet (headed “2006 r5 XL Driver (Type N)”) describes two ports at the heel and toe of the rear sole with a slightly closed clubface, a 460 cc head and the Fujikura Hyperlite 2 shaft (S, R, M; 54–56 g) on a TaylorMade TNG grip at D2.
  • The 9.5° head is listed right- and left-handed, the 10.5° right-handed only; the Type D sheet adds a 12° head and a women’s build.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
