Identifying the right model

  • Sole view with r5 XL lettering (XL in yellow) over TaylorMade script, a dark rear sole pad with two shallow recesses at the heel, a 3 by the hosel and a red shaft.

What to check before using the reference

  • The men’s table lists 15°, 18° and 22° heads (159, 139 and 136 cc) at 43, 42.5 and 42 in and D2, all left-handed as well; the women’s table lists the same heads right-handed only, 1 in shorter at C7.
  • TaylorMade describes a swing weight cartridge in the rear sole, internal draw weighting and the Fujikura Hyperlite 2 shaft (S, R, M; 54–56 g, and a 50 g L flex) on TaylorMade TNG grips.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
