Identifying the right model

  • Sole view with r5 XL lettering over TaylorMade script, a 460 cc D marking on the rear sole pad, two red-dot ports side by side at the heel and a red shaft.

What to check before using the reference

  • TaylorMade’s sheet (headed “2006 r5 XL Driver (Type D)”) describes two ports near the heel of the rear sole and a closed clubface for a draw bias; the men’s Hyperlite 2 shaft (S, R, M) sits at D2 and only the 10.5° head is listed left-handed.
  • The women’s table lists the 12° head only, right-handed, at 44 in with a Hyperlite 2 50 L shaft, a TaylorMade TNG W grip and a C7 swingweight.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
