Identifying the right model

  • The sole photo shows a dark grey sole with a cross-shaped plate, a round orange face-angle dial marked N with a numbered opened/closed scale toward the toe-side top, FACE ANGLE lettering beside the dial, TaylorMade script running down the middle of the plate, an R1 logo at the top, a white panel on the heel side with a LOFT arrow and the loft-sleeve scale on the hosel.

What to check before using the reference

  • TaylorMade lists the R1 as one head rather than fixed lofts: the loft sleeve offers 12 settings between 8° and 12° (7 standard and 5 upright), the sheet says it ships in the 10° setting, and a sole dial gives 7 face-angle options.
  • Stock build on the sheet: Aldila RIP Phenom 55 shaft (X, S, R, M, L), TM 360 55 g grip, D4 swingweight, right- and left-handed; an Aldila RIP Phenom 65 TP shaft is listed for the TP build.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.
