How to identify this generation

  • RAZR X lettering with a red X sits at the toe end of a black cavity, a silver Callaway plate stands nearer the hosel and three slots run along the top of the cavity.
  • The RAZR X name also appears on these Callaway irons; compare their markings before using this chart: RAZR X Black (2016 US catalog).

What to notice in the specifications

  • Callaway lists graphite rows with different lengths (3 39 in, 4 38.5 in, 5 38 in, 6 37.5 in, 7 37 in, 8 36.5 in, 9 36 in, PW 35.5 in, AW 35.5 in, SW 35.25 in, LW 35 in); this chart shows the steel figures.
  • Callaway also lists a women’s build (36 in 7-iron) with the same lofts and lies.
Checking a club you own? These are the maker's published figures for an original build, not measurements of your club, and a source date is not the year it was made. Bending, reshafting or a hosel adjustment changes loft, lie and length, so identify the head by its own markings and have a fitter measure it when its history is unclear.

Read our loft guide for a worked example of comparing the numbers, and our used iron checklist before relying on a seller's description.
